Morula Centre's three herbal working gardens are used as part of the practical aspect of the various courses demonstrating the growing and harvesting for preservation and making of remedies.



The Principal: Janet Visée
(
Dip Pharm, B.Compt, RT.Cert.of RASA, Int.Cert. of London, Dip. Aromatherapy).

Janet has dedicated her career path to educating and healing many people a field. In addition to her impressive academic qualifications, she continually keeps abreast of new research and development in the field of aromatic chemistry, pharmacy and herbalism by attending various workshops, courses and seminars.

Presently the Chairperson of the Herb Association (HAoSA), Janet has also always been involved in contributing to the community voluntarily. This includes doing outreach work with organisations such as the AIDS Hospice and the Outreach project Mamelodi. She is a Board Member of SAMOO. With a strong background of Pharmacy Janet has extended her knowledge into natural health and healing. She is a Registered Therapeutic Aromatherapist and Reflexologist and is a member of the S.A. Pharmaceutical Society, Aromatherapy Society of S.A., S.A.Reflexology Society and the Natural Healers Association.

Janet has been teaching and sharing her wealth of knowledge for the past decade. The Morula Centre has three herbal working gardens. These gardens are used as part of the practical aspect of the various courses demonstrating the growing and harvesting for preservation and making of remedies.

The Morula Herbal Centre's philosophy believes in the preventative properties of herbs as well as their tonic actions increasing the vitality and energy of our bodies. The Morula Herbal Centre provides students and interested parties with a continuous understanding of natural herbs, plants and health.

 

Certificate in Natural Medicine and Wellness

The spectrum of the 10 part-time modular courses based on the expected scope of practice for Traditional/Natural healers includes the following aspects

  • The history of traditional medicine with its general and specific uses and principles of herbal medicine

  • The value and uses of culinary herbs and spices

  • The cultivation, harvesting and preservation of herbs

  • Overview of botany and botanical identification of medicinal and aromatic plants

  • Phytochemistry of secondary metabolites

  • The working of the human body related to health and wellness

  • The making of herbal remedies

  • Indigenous herbs

Course Content:

  • Study Guide 1 Traditional Herbalism, propagation, harvesting and preservation of herbs, plant Pharmacology

  • Study Guide 2 Basic overview of botany related to medicinal plants. Aromatic plants and oils both Indigenous and international therapy methods

  • Study Guide 3 Basic nutrition, culinary benefits, cooking, preservation and variations of use

  • Study Guide 4 Body systems overview relating to health and wellness. Digestive and immune systems including relevant herbs

  • Study Guide 5 Cardio-vascular and Endocrine systems including relevant herbs. Patterns of and coping with stress.

  • Study Guide 6 Central Nervous , Integumentary and Lymphatic systems, including relevant herbs.

  • Study Guide 7 Respiratory and Senses, Male and Female and Urinary systems and their relevant herbs.

  • Study Guide 8 Basic Pathology, communicable and endemic diseases.

  • Study Guide 9 Diagnostic techniques, Traditional Medicine and indigenous herbs

  • Study Guide 10 Counselling and Lifestyle Coaching, Healthcare ethics and Practice management

On completion of all 10 Modules plus their assignments and projects a certificate in traditional herbalism and therapeutic nutrition will be awarded.
